Beginning of Darkness DX
by Aegis Runestone

Overworld Design: The overworld design in this quest was functional, but there wasn't anything particularly spectacular. The design of the interlocking forest areas was good, but all those single tile trees get old after a while, and the occaisional bug of walking from one screen to another and getting stuck on a tile became repetitive and redundant, though there were no fatal bugs.

Dungeon Design: The dungeon design in this quest was fantastic. All the dungeons were balanced and fun, the secrets were never too hard to find and I never felt like I was simply doing the motions through each dungeon. Nice job on them.

Gameplay/Special Effects: Breakable pots were one of the mentioned special effects, but those are quite common nowadays so, sorry I can't give too many brownie points for em. However, gameplay wise, this quest was quite fun and entertaining, and I enjoyed playing through the quest. Finding the sword in the second screen was a bit off-putting, however.

Storyline: I, unfortunately, have no idea what the storyline of this quest was, other than 'get the triforce' which is pretty much a given in the Zelda universe. I made a rule-of-thumb: If the quest includes a storyline in a textfile outside of game, I will NOT read that text file. I like to judge this category on whether or not I can get some idea of the storyline in-game, as opposed to out of game.

Sound/Music: Aegis has done a great job picking music which enhances the overall appeal of each dungeon, and I felt the music was lifting and appropriate every time I heard it. Of special mention is the music in the fallen town of Kakarkio, which is my favorite song in this quest.

Overall: This quest goes from being really great in certain areas, to really poor in others. This makes making an overall judgement difficult: Although the lack of story detracts from the overall game, it really doesn't affect the fun gameplay much. For my final judgement, I award 3/5 Stars, however fixing the little problems I mentioned above will bring this game quickly up to a 4/5 Stars game. My recommendation is that you download this quest if you enjoy BS Zelda Style graphics, you're likely not to find a funner quest for it.
